The sonata no. 2 contains the celebrated 3^rd movement “Funeral March” which was orchestrated and performed at Chopin’s own funeral in 1849. Sonata no.3 is the grandest of all Chopin’s solo piano works. Frequently daring, it contains some of the composer’s most exciting piano writing and inventive construction. Olga Kumik - Fantasy and Reflection In this, her debut CD, the outstanding young Polish pianist Olga Kumik plays three great piano fantasies by Mozart, Chopin and Brahms. With mature understanding and impeccable technique, Kumik delivers an absorbing account of these three wonderful piano works. To complete the CD, there is Ravel’s five movement piano suite Miroirs. Its fascinating array of colours and textures makes this early 20th century piece a great example of the French impressionistic style.
